Contemporary Cathedral Windows Workshop
After an interesting discussion of Japanese Textiles at the chapter meeting on February 7, Lara Stepahin Green presented a hands-on workshop which covered her method of creating “Cathedral Windows” quilt patterns.
The workshop was very well attended by a wonderful, very talkative group. Using simple folding and handsewing techniques—we decided some of this can be done on the machine—we each created a beautiful, textural piece of cloth. Though our sample piece was small, it was large enough to construct a clutch purse. The technique can be adapted to any size so it’s possible to stitch any size you’d like. The quilted pieces can be inserted into a garment, made into a totebag or expanded to be part of a jacket. Lara brought a sample jacket that was stunning to say the least.
Lara is a delightful instructor and presented a fun and versatile project. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
